Silver Arch Property Solutions will carry out a microwave leakage test on your worktop microwave*, including alongside other services at your property such as an EPC testing or property inventories. We offer an Island wide service, so wherever you are located on the Isle of Wight, we can provide you a microwave emission test.

A leakage test may sound quite scary and something more associated with movies or nuclear sites, but it is a very standard test which ensures the microwave you use in the home or in your office is safe and does not let harmful amounts of microwaves escape while it heats the contents inside. Microwaves that are more than two years old or have had lots of use over the years are more prone to deterioration.

The microwave equipment itself has protective panelling (such as the mesh you see on the viewing window) to prevent these waves from escaping when the equipment is in operation.

The test involves using specific detection equipment to measure if any dangerous levels of microwaves are leaking out while it is heating an item, which the test involves placing a cup of water inside and turning the microwave on for one minute. The test also involves a visual inspection of the unit and ensuring the interlocking system works. This means opening the door while the microwave is in operation to ensure it stops the cooking process.

If the microwave passes the inspection, it is safe to use and we will place a 'pass' sticker on the microwave. If the microwave fails, it must not be used and should either be fully repaired or replaced.
